This 1917-dated bayonet measures 15” overall with a 10” blade equipped with single unstopped fullers, numbered “24931” on the reverse crossguard, marked “WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER A.G. / OBERNDORF a.N.” on the obverse ricasso, "256258" on the obverse pommel, and "(crown) / W / 17" atop the spine. The bayonet features a removed muzzle ring, curved quillion, and flashguard. The metal surfaces retain a silver patina with scattered oxidation and pinprick pitting. The walnut wood grips remain in good condition with scattered light abrasions and a small piece missing in the bottom front corner of the reverse grip just below the front grip screw. An interestingly altered WWI German butcher blade bayonet.
