WWI German Imperial Army Officer’s Dress Saber by Carl Eickhorn Solingen with Scabbard
This saber measures 36 5/8” overall with a 32” single fuller spear point blade and retains almost all of its original bright polished finish with light scabbard scratches along the foible, the reverse ricasso retains a crisp Carl Eickhorn Solingen squirrel mark. The brass hilt features a lion’s head pommel with red glass eyes, floral backstrap, knucklebow, ferrule, and crossguard with dual langets, the obverse langet showing crossed swords in wreath and a black plastic grip wrapped in double bordered twisted aluminum wire. The hilt retains generous amounts of gold wash, with the exposed brass surfaces having a dark ochre patina. The grip and wrappings remain in near excellent condition with light handling marks. The steel scabbard remains in very good condition perhaps 80% flaking black enamel with scattered light oxidation and a couple minute dings.
